A special drawing from many points of view. First, the photo reference that I choose is a very nice one. It belongs to Deby Dearman, and I took it from Paint my Photo. Secondly, this time I tried to mix a little bit some different mediums: graphite pencils for the girl, graphitint for the rose (mixed also with graphite) and charcoal for the background. It was not as easy as I thought, specially the charcoal, which tended to smudge my drawing hrr

I hope I’ll take a picture too to show you the difference of textures which all of these mediums give. Because the graphite is shining and the charcoal no, looks like the girl is pumping up from the paper.

This drawing was more like an illustration. The only reference that I had from the client was their head. The rest of the body I had to invent it or use several references from internet. It was very interesting to draw this, even if I almost didn’t knew how it will look like in the end. But seams like it toured out nice and they look like some real gangsters from 1920, as they wished.

I am taking part to an art swap organised by David Pringle. (: Here you can see more details about this.
It’s the first big art swap that I am taking part of. The first one was on pencilportraits.ning.com but it was a little one made between members. This time seams like there are involved many many artists from all over the world I am so excited to see what piece of art I will receive.

Here is the list with all the artist involved in the current art swap, but I heard that it will be another one in 6 months. So stay tuned!

My art work is the one above, with the lovers. It’s not so big because I have to deliver it far far away Now is packed and in a few minutes I go to the post office. I really hope that the receiver will like it.

I made this little drawing for the contest we had on Pencil Portraits. I have to admit that I chose the photo reference, but while drawing it I realised that it wasn’t so easy to do. You can go on the contest page and see the other portraits made after this photo by the members. I didn’t participated, but just tried to give some advices. It wasn’t quite a contest, in the real meaning, because the goal was to achieve more knowledge about how to make a portrait, rather than compete.

I worked a lot to these posters to complete. Except the hammer (which is from the previous poster) and the horse (which you already know from one of my old drawings) I made most of the drawing with no references. I used Arches hot-press paper. First time when I use it, and I can say that I really like it. It’s not very smooth as I used to work with, but it suited perfectly for this drawing.

In the little contest I made in the Portrait Group from Flickr there were 22 entries, but only 16 entered for the votes. All of the portraits were great. Even I was very exited to find out who will win. The votes were tide, but, of course, in the end there should be a winner (:

And the winner iiiis *drums* Sergio Maclean *claps*. After I told him he was the winner, Sergio said:

Wow! That’s unexpected! I got to win AND I get the girl!!

Thank you all for voting, this picture was taken on her birthday and it almost cost me a camera on the water since we where kiddin’ around for a while.

Of all my shots this is definatelly one that is made great by her, rather than me. It is great because she is openly happy and relaxed. I have plenty of pictures of her posing, or at least under more controled environments. I chose this one because it was one of those days when We where giddy with love.

There is no retouching, no balancing, no prepparing. The shot is what it is.

It is a surprise to me that you all chose to vote for us.

Thank you.

It’s the first time I use Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. I just received it from the USA, and seams like the first sheet of it is going back to the USA, in New York. This portrait pencil was very fun to make. I love how the light gets on her face very much. It makes her look so natural and relaxed. Thanks Sergio for the opportunity to make this drawing (:
