La fierarie – Pum Boem 2 / The forge Pub 2

By jullia in Commissions, My gallery
This is the new version of the posters for the Pub Boem “La Fierarie” (in translation: The Forge Pub). The new concept is based on 3 continues posters, as shown bellow. They will be posted separately but also 2 by 2 or all 3 together (depends on event presentation). There are white areas for personalization. There will be informations about the new concerts, events that take place in there. If you want to see more about these events visit their web La Fierarie

I worked a lot to these posters to complete. Except the hammer (which is from the previous poster) and the horse (which you already know from one of my old drawings) I made most of the drawing with no references. I used Arches hot-press paper. First time when I use it, and I can say that I really like it. It’s not very smooth as I used to work with, but it suited perfectly for this drawing.

Bellow is the flyer obtained from uniting these 3 posters.

PS: the sepia colour is given in Photoshop.

Nurturing creativity – by Elizabeth Gilbert

By jullia in Articles
I just want to share with you this interesting presentation of Elizabeth Gilbert about creativity.
Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses — and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person “being” a genius, all of us “have” a genius. It’s a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

In the little contest I made in the Portrait Group from Flickr there were 22 entries, but only 16 entered for the votes. All of the portraits were great. Even I was very exited to find out who will win. The votes were tide, but, of course, in the end there should be a winner (:

New commission done. I can admit that I am very satisfy with this one. The photo reference was a very good one. Indeed : D, in this photo there is Giuliana too. I made her a portrait wile ago; she like it so much that she wanted one for her husband too (: I wish all the clients would be as delighted as she is.

Usually it’s so easy to draw Angelina Jolie or any other Hollywood star. They all have professional photos with perfect light, well detailed. Every artist expect to commission these kind of photos. But what are you’re going to do when your client has a picture token with a normal camera, in a normal environment, and low resolution?.. well, it’s normal.

And they like that picture very much, they have wonderful memories attached, they are really in love with it. You have to improve and to try your best to recreate those feelings and make it look good. And this is what I tried to do with this commission, and the client was very delighted.

This portrait arrived safety far far away in Canada to Steven.
