This is the second portrait I did as a prize for Okian’s competition. The first one was Nasti. I added again some blue dry brush oil. Not such a big effect this time, but I think that dry oil technique suites the best with the pencils on this Starthmore Smooth paper.

Thank you Trish! Indeed, I noticed that taking photos to my portraits is more interesting and they are more alike the real life drawing.. in the scan version there are always bad contrasts.

I would like to ask,what kind of oils did you use and what you add to mixing oil paint when drawing a portrait? Do you have any video to see how you use dry pencil technique?

I used normal oils, no special treatment, and I don’t mix them with anything. In this portrait I used the oils only for the blue hat. The rest of it is made in pencils. You can search on youtube for dry brush technique, there are a few videos. The pencils are already dried ;))
